In a discussion a while back about parting tools somebody mentioned the availability of 1.5mm wide index tipped parting tools. Apparently these are a new thing on the market – the 1.5mm width tip – and as I am looking for a new parting tool thought to give one a go. However, I cannot find a supplier. Tried the usual suspects without success. Does anyone know of a supplier.

Most of these Firms that do parting tools 1.5mm width or under some are parting tools some are grooving tips but would do the job I would think.

There are other manufacturers which would do tip for parting off but here's a start

I use one of the Mini-Thin holders from MSC (sorry JS) as they often have them on special offer. does neutral, L/H and R/H parting as well as square bottom/round bottom grooves of various sizes and threading. They work very well, I originally bought it for doing E clip grooves, here it is putting in 1mm groves for piston rings.

You can buy the tips and screw separately so could make a holder quite easily if so inclined.

Yes, HE30 (6082), works well in whatever I have tried it on, these are the cast iron piston rings that I did yesterday 1mm wide x 1mm thick
