I had a neglected J&S 520 grinder follow me home the other day. I have the basic unit but that is about all. I am looking for any information (documents, photos, drawings or even parts) that people have to help me work out what needs to be done to it.

This is it as received –

( I don't have a photobucket account so this is a link to a similar post I've put on PM – I hope it works/ is acceptable).

This is basically all there is. The handles will be painted this weekend and the dome nut has been replaced with a replica of the original.

I had thought once upon a time there was an article in ME or MEW on one of these but I can't find it.

        Help would be much appreciated.

        Michael

          Hello Michael,

What a well trained machine, I assume it travelled to heel the whole way!

It looks nice too, I'm sure you will soon get it doing it's stuff.

Try www'lathes.co.uk Tony Griffiths excellent website on all manner of machine tools, he also sells handbooks for J & S grinders, I'm holding one for a J&S 310. the printing is clear as are the photos and the book is packed with useful information. I don't think it was an arm and leg either. There must be common ground with your model.

          Regards Brian

Thanks Brian. I've already been in touch with Tony and picked up a J&S primer as well as a copy of the 520 brochure. That in itself has provided some useful information but it's one of those more the merrier things. I'm really hoping to find others that have them (hen's teeth stuff I know) so I can compare notes and even construction details.

            We'll see.

            Michael
