Does anyone have one of these Acorn Tools' Grinders that mount onto a Myford ML7/Super 7 topslide by means of the Acorn "Grinder Adaptor Bracket"? I have the Adaptor Bracket and the instructions as attached (mysteriously printed on dark blue paper) but I am missing "replacement support screw" which I think replaces the toolpost bolt/spigot although the instructions to me are not absolutely clear. Does anyone know if this is what the instructions mean (they do not instruct anywhere definitively to remove the toolpost bolt/spigot)? Is this all I need and if so could someone give a photo/specs please so that I can make one up? The instructions labelled "ACORNTOOLS" NO. 450 TOOLPOST GRINDER are attached. Thanks, acorn tools grinder mounting to myford topslide_0001.jpgacorn tools grinder mounting to myford topslide_0002.jpg

That's no mystery, it's a blueprint. Brings back memories of a diazo room full of ultra-violet light and the smell of ammonia.

            Hi Adam

As Neil says a blueprint or maybe a negative for a ( very old!) photocopier – I can remember using one such 50ish years ago.

Problem easily solved for a photographer. In Photoshop go to "Select All" then "Invert" . Of academic interest only I guess but the result is thus:-

It sounds like it is a short bolt. similar to the one you are removing which possibly does not have a hex head but a 7/8 flange instead. Don't have a Myford so can't say what that looks like. It seems the plate in your instructions has a joggle in it just to help locate it and prevent it rotating. possible picture of a long one here.

'Acorn tools grinder' does not come up with any pictures in google so post a piccy and be famous as the first on the 'net.

Norman thanks for that – I don't know much about photoshop, but that is certainly easier to read now! Adam

Neil, Thanks – so that is then the first proper blueprint I have ever seen. Very interesting. Adam

Thanks Bazyle. If it is just a replacement shorter bolt with the same flange (existing bolt too high and threaded part finishes too high for adaptor plate), looking again at it, there is a simple solution that accommodates the fact that also the Adaptor's hole is wider than the existing bolt. The bolt is actually not really required to be shorter, so I will just make up a collared bush with internal diameter to match the bolt and external to match the Adaptor with a height that reaches the existing thread. Part of my confusion over how to mount it was that I mistakenly assumed that the grinding wheel will come at the workpiece from the rear when actually it seems intended to come at the work piece from the front of the lathe as with a cutting tool (not great as the motor gets in the way of visibility). Anyway thanks for pushing my feeble brain in the right direction! Adam. I will put a photo in my album when finished

So Bazyle , here we have it , Acorntools No.450 Toolpost Grinder (guess from 1960's) mounted on the Myford Super7 toolpost:

There is a nice little debris trough that slides out under the grinding wheel as you can see – of course debris powder goes everywhere except for in that little trough!
