Hi Brian. After struggling all morning I left it and had Tea and something to eat and thought about it. The table locking lever had below it a 3/16" dia brass bar about 2" long that actually did the locking and once removed the parts separated. The gear isn't bronze either, looked that way to me because of all the grease in there, it's steel or iron. Cleaned everything down and looked at it again. You're right there are two pins one either side of the shaft which pivots on the front mounting/yolk, careful adjustment and re-oiling and it's working without skipping. Don't know why it went out of adjustment, haven't used it for a while and it was OK then. Thanks for your reply, you're right sometimes the straight forward is missed.
