      hi guys I was cleaning out my drip tray as I do every week on my Myford and I found a screw, washer and a disc spring washer as the photo I found it behind the motor around the back on the tray it is definitely from the lath as the screw and the heavy washer look the same as the one on the side of the gearbox it looks like it puts tension on the end of a shaft.

      I have looked all over the lath with a torch and had no luck finding where it came from as anyone got a parts manual for a Myford 7 plus big bore

            Does it retain the clutch operating lever?

              Hi, have you not got an illustrated parts manual, you may be able to spot the parts in there? Or go on Myfords website.

                Kevin,

                On older Super7Bs ,there is one of these on the outside end of the gearbox layshaft, next to the leadscrew, as you have noted; the only other one in the headstock is on the backgear cluster, and holds the backgear twin gear onto its shaft on the backgear eccentric. Partially hidden under the bullwheel.

                However, in some manuals this is shown as a circlip instead of the screw and washers.

                Apart from this, am as baffled as you are.

                  Have look at the motor there is a tie bar with a captive nut to lock the motor in position after adjusting the belt

                  tension . it looks very like  that part

                    hi guys all sorted Mike was correct it retains the clutch operating lever

                    I got the info from looking at photos of the back of the lathe from **LINK** thanks for the help .

                    I think I need to get a parts manual book for future reference.
