Just after Christmas I was given a milling machine. It was three phase and I have just finished rewiring it to inverter drive.

Just before I came in tonight I had to have my moment of glory to machine something that I could use the power traverse on, YES POWER. No more acking arms or wrists from winding a 4” handle.

With 400mm of power travel I had to cut something, so after putting in a 3/8” slot drill the collet a 6” cut in a scrap piece of mild steel seems nice and easy with that power travel.

Tomorrow the horns for my sweet pea that have sat patiently in my drawers are going to be started and finished. Progress.

Nice big vice you've got on that new milling machine. Take pity on your old milling machine and give it a whirl once in a while.

I know I am a pedantic old so and so but, a Miller is a person who operates a Milling machine.

It's like the cricket commentaries that keep talking about 'batters'. Drives me up the wall. Of course we must allow for some people coming from foreign parts – like north of Watford. cheeky

Very nice indeed. I've got the Sealey version of your old milling m/c. In many ways it's a curse because without it I might have bought a proper one by now. I keep eying up Bridgeport clones. It can't be healthy.

Presumably the Harrison is noticeably more rigid and gives a better cut. And has power feed(s).

                              Jealous….

                                Hi Muzzer,

Yes it is a lot stronger. It's also nice to be able to chnage tools from drills to reamers in the vertical plane and not loose your settings.

The power feed is gtreat, i have machined my cast iron bearings for sweetpea in one length. Bonu is leaving it to run and doing something else at the same time.

                                IRP3857. Have fun.

                                Bri
