Hi my first post, just got my super 7 lathe and i have ordered a quick change tool post from Myford. The lathe came with a 4 way tool post and I cant use my 10mm indexable tools they sit to high, Question what is the largest indexable tool you can fit in this holder?

          Hi There

I bought a cheap 4 way tool post and faced the bottom off until 10mm tools fitted it.

          regards David

David (B), are you talking about the four way tool post or your new QCTP? If the latter then you will have no problem with your 10mm tools, there will be enough adjustment. >>

If you look to reuse your four way tool holder as a rear tool post with a suitable packer you will have no problem with tool height as the cutting edge is at the bottom rather than the top. >>

You could also look at the imported holders that fit these tool posts as some have a thinner bottom "lip" which will allow you to get the tool lower and save the ones that came with the post for smaller tooling.

Watch if you try to machine off the bottom of the holder and they are usually hardened to some degree depending on who made them.

                  Hi All

Beware though, I've bought some imported toolholders where the bottom 'lip' was quite thick meaning that my 10mm tools wouldn't fit. I've now got a good number of these and there is quite a lot of variation – I've just measured some and the bottom lip varies in thickness between 5.6mm and 6.9mm.

How high the tool tip is also depends on how low the tip fits in its toolbar. On some of the cheaper tools the tip sits proud of the upper surface.

hi i had to machine 1.2 mm off the bottom to get the tip tool to canter
