Doe's anyone know of a supplier who stocks 1/16th BSP taps and dies, as an on-line search hasn't produced anything smaller than 1/8th having just bought five elbows that are threaded 1/16th BSP I really to able to screw one end of each elbow into different parts of a crank case in order to produce a lubrication system. Thanks in anticipation.

                Hi. roy.

Their on-line catalogue doesn't list any 1/16'' BSP taps or dies, but I've sent them an e-mail so I should know on Monday, thanks for the info.

Roy, Where did you find 1/16" BSP in Tracy Tools cat, not in my Winter 2012 paper catalogue nor on their web as far as I can see?

Can you not re-cut the threads to something a liitle more common? (Or as I did, solder the buggers on)

Appologies again I must have been having a senior moment ( at 78 I get one or two)

it seems that 1/8 bsp is the smallest size This I have just confirmed by Machinery Handbook and Zeus

Although Tracy don't list 1/16 BSP they do list 5/16"x28 which is the same pitch, thread angle (Whit form)and only 0.008" larger than the BSP which may do the job.

Did'nt think there was 1/16" bsp, but looked it up, and on one site it showed 1/8" to 2" bsp, then the next page same site, it showed 1/16"bsp, pipe OD .304, 28 tpi, tapping size 6.6 mm/ Letter G drill.

Also shown on Wikipedia BSP theads. Ian S C

Machinery's Handbook 27th Ed (2004) clearly shows 1/16" BSP as being part of BS 21:1973

The other alternative is to by unmachined elbows which allows you to thread them with whatever you have to hand – 5/16×40 or 5/16×32 is what I use and always keep a few elbows in stock

                                        Gentlemen,

I stand corrected if I'm wrong but would it not be possible to make your own tap and die out of say Silver Steel suitably heat treated afterwards.

I,m doing a recovery job on a Stuart Turner S9, the drain cocks are threaded 5/32 ME, 40 TPI, the oilers on the main, and big end bearings look like 3/16 ME. The inlet, and exhaust flanges are also ME thread. ME or any fine thread, ie., UNEF would be ideal for the little stuff. Ian S C
