Hi Guys,

If any of you who expressed an interest in my Tangential parting tool want to see it in the flesh, it will be on the SMEE stand at Sandown. You will have to scrutinize the stand hard, as it is not very impressive to look at, but then scrutinizing a SMEE stand at Sandown usually warrants close scrutiny.

PS For those who missed it at A-P earlier this year where I was demo-ing, it's the same one that worked relatively vice free.

Hi Folks,

I have produced a very amateur tangential tool, partly plagiarising the trapezium idea from an old post (Don't know whose). I had the idea of making a simple gauge to reset the centre height instantly after re-sharpening the HSS bit. I have uploaded 3 photos.

The tool works well but I need to have another go to make a more professional effort, while fighting the cheap and nasty Chinese mill (and my inexperience.)

It was intended to have both grub screws tightened from behind but I broke a tap in one hole – hence the M5 grub screw on the front. With the setting gauge there is no inconvenience with having the grub screws obstructed by the tool post. I have not yet found the bit slipping but I guess it may happen.

I think Sandown is the worst place I can think of traveling to (if you are a Londoner well OK) , tried it once parking a nightmare very few traders mostly market stalls, could not but after difficulty found club and exhibition stands. no signs little seating for us old gits, I could go on. So sorry a big humbs down…

A different Sandown maybe.

I would say the parking was great, would not argue about the quality of the actual show though.

Hi Norman,

Who cares what it looks like, as long as it works. On the up side it doesn't look that bad.

As for the screws, I use something similar on my "roller box" small diameter turning tangential tool, works for me!

Now to Bob, "parking a nightnare", when you were there did you see that very large area of grass in front of the building, well that was the car park. Admitedly it is all up hill on the way in but downhill when leaving with oodles of purchases under your arm. The club stands can be a bit awkward to find, either hidden away up or down stairs, but it is quite difficult to miss the best of all (SMEE) as you just have to look out for the blue coats, of which there one or two dozen. Trade stands, mmmm, could be more?
