Just wanted to show the first part of a QCTP I am making right now for my SIEG C3 lathe.

The design used comes originally from Ishimura and Jim Whethren, but here adapted in size to fit the C3.

The main block is made from a lump of cast iron coming from an old iron (you know the type used to iron clothes and was heated by putting it on the stove). The material is very good and have no hard spots as far as I could find.

The tool holder locking sleeve is BMS and the  center part locking the position of the whole thing is made from a bit of hard brass, all found in the scrap bin.

Made the handles in a style of my own, and intend to use the same style also for the tail stock barrel lock and the half-nut locking arm as it turned out to my liking.

I will be back when I have got hold of material for the tool holders.

      BR

      /Peter

            Very nice!

I keep planning a QCTP for mine when I have a lump of scrap big enough!

I copied the standard mini-lathe handles for my tailstock and for my T&C grinder, lots easier than ball handles!

Thank you Steve and Stub M for your comments!I do not have a ball turning tool of any sort – yet – so I had to go for something else, and something that does not hurt when thumped wrong

@Stub M: Your handle design sounds interesting, do you by any chance have any photos?

                Hi all,

Unfortunately it will take some time before I can continue this thread. A few days ago I slipped, fell, and broke my left wrist, but the idea is to cut a suitable no of 25×25 mm (1″x1″) holders about 50 mm (2″) in length, and from them create the different holders for turning, boring, knurling, and ball turning.

Nothing complicated, but just a lot of work.

Had totally forgot about this thread blush but I think it is time to make an update. The wrist is now fine, even back to as good as before I fell smiley so I have had some time to continue.

The project restarted as StubMandrel/Neil asked about drawings for this QCTP and I made a display at the end of his thread of the different types of holders I now have made. Please see **LINK**

As I stated in the other thread, the system works very good and locks the holders firmly and squarely to the post. Very recommendable.

                    Hi Peter,

How time flies, I lost this thread and realise you were hoping for a picture of one of my handles:

                    Quick Change ToolpostI

This one atop the very toolpost I made that is my own version of the Nakamura design.

Followinga brief interruption to my milling facilities, I now have a growing stock of toolholders, like you staring with a pile of 1"x1"x2" dovetailed blanks..

Glad to hear your wrist noqw works as well as your toolpost

                    Neil

                        Thanks Peter!

I think yours look better, but mine are a good solution with minium effort.

                        Neil
