Should have a health warning prior to the clip.

That's nearly as bad as that idiot Steve Jordan's idea of lapping lathe slides by hand – and then having to put two locking screws on his compound when he's realised that he's ruined it, and called that an 'upgrade' too.

I just looked at that. Oh my word! And commentators on the video are praising him! surprise

A good reason why videos of this nature should be peer reviewed before put on the 'net! Not going to happen though.

I've done similar occasionally, difference being I made a tool post clamp for the angle grinder. Recently reduced the width of a case hardened gear in a motorcycle gearbox. Also used PPE, something the guy in the video was probably not to bothered about.

And before anyone mentions the evils of grinding dust , I do cover the important bits.

I thought it was camera shake at the beginning of the ''parting off'' then looked again and realised that the lathe was moving!

Me thinks the slideway gentleman has forgotten more than he learned whilst he worked, he didnt notice that he was adjusting the end gib strip screws in free space and then found it didnt lap in the centre smiley

Yes, beware of You Tube 'tutorials'.

My missus wanted me to make a plaster-of-paris slab for drying out surplus wet pottery clay, and we wasted spent 3/4 of an hour watching some famous potter failing to make one. He made up an elaborate frame to contain the plaster, then couldn't get the slab off the car window he'd used as a base, and just gave up.

We used an old cat-tray lined with polythene. That was 5 years ago and the slab still works well.

Just being picky here, but it seemed to me that there was still quite a lot of chatter in the 'tool'. It might have needed a more sturdy 'tool holder'.

I have seen worse on YT. Bored a hole on the lathe then wrapped a piece of emery around his finger and inserted into live hole to debur. I left a comment and reported to YT .

haven't the time to watch an hour or so of video, especially since it sounds as if it might be bad for my bloodpressure.

But seems to have produced quite a bit of chatter on here!

Pictured with my Quorn set up on the toolpost, cut the end off the arbor fitted to an Eriksson tenthset boring head and then changed the cut-off disc for an internal stone to grind a 3mm long internal bore. Converting an ISO30 arbor to BT30 to fit my Emco F1 mill.

That looks like the Mk 1 wheelhead and I notice the knurled clamp screws; is this so you can quickly swap out the spindle?
