Many years ago I did one for my South Bend lathe. I made a simple clamp fixture with a guide groove to hold the cemented belt and clamp it tight. I mounted a thermocouple in the fixture near the belt, connected to a meter to read the temp, well away from the fixture on the bench. I applied cement, clamped the belt quickly, and heated the fixture / belt with an electric heat gun (like a big hair dryer but with lots more heat) to maintain the temperature. The heat gun was moved closer or farther away as required to keep the temp where it was supposed to be for the 30 minute cure time. Seemed to work – the belt has been in service over 20 years now!

Though if you just clamp your scarfed joints into 2 slices of alloy and hold it at 100 c for 30 mins you should be good to go

enlightened .. Looks like a charity-shop 'toastie maker' might be a good investment.

Good idea but could you buy an electrical appliance in such a place?

Good to know and a relief from some of the overreaction to safety legislation.

The British Heart Foundation sell electrical goods at their large stores In many U.K. towns

They also collect the larger stuff and are great to deal with.

Unfortunately I know nothing about flat machine belts!
