I am doing an oil change on a DSG 17. When I undid the plug nothing came out .. – not a good sign. I penetrated the sediment at the bottom of the apron with a bit of wire and pretty thick gloop of congealed oil came out followed by the 2 pints of oil.

It's pretty clean, not much metal and still clear tho thick. I have to replace it with 68 grade oil.

Should I flush the rest of the gloop out or just leave it. And what with ?.

If you can get a bent bit of wire in and scrape the gloop to loosen it from the bottom, then flush with diesel fuel, parrafin or white spirit, in that order of preferance, allow it to drain well, and refill, you shoiuld be good to go. My first lathe was a DS&G 13Z.

excellent, thanks Phil. I have even got some diesel.
