Anyone in the UK purchased a Tormach CNC mill? Who could share their experiences?

          Hi Jim
First part of an article about importing and using a Tormach mill is in Model Engineers’ Workshop issue 171.
Includes who to use as importer.
There are at least two users in the UK that I might be able to put you in touch with.
          One via the other.
          regards David

          PS How’s that for service?

I would strongly recommend using an american company for shipping and not arrange it from this end. I have imported several engines in the last year or two. Shipping cost insured was around £275 by sea or £400 by air. You can easily arrange for a tail lift pick up and shipping by air or sea for about half of the figure suggested in the article. Customer service is excellent in the USA. When the goods arrive the import agent will offer to clear customs for you – the cost is around £50. What is quite outrageous is that you pay VAT on the shipping cost as well as the price of the goods so the lower the better.

You pay VAT on P&P for goods bought in the UK, so what is the difference?

There might be an alternative more local, http://www.klippfeld.at/index-en.html as the F-12CNC.
Klippfeld have a range of mills from euro 1380 for F10 upwards and a range of lathes- all made in Austria. Would be very interesting hearing from an owner.
                  Regards,
                  Alan.

Thanks for the posts on this topic, Dave I don’t know whether my PM got stuck in the either but the contact details of  UK owners would still be useful.

Although in this case I don’t want them to be telling me they are crap. I accidentally came on one for sale while looking for other alternatives. This one was in the UK so I have taken the plunge. It  has the 8” 4th axis kit and most of the other bells and whistles so I thought I might as well give it a punt.

Only fly in the ointment is it might have to go in the sitting room as have no idea what I am going to chuck out of the garage to make room for it.

I think he means that as the shipping is by a US company why pay UK vat and I agree, but as we know they can and do charge tax on anything they want!

I might admit to the being the owner of a Tormach CNC mill, and in the UK too.
