I have an L5 with the norton gearbox that i am resurecting from single to 3 phase and a general tidy up .

i have 3 questions

what was the original motor pulley size ?

what is a good modern oil for the head ?

and finally what changewheels are 'standard fit' to enable the gearbox to run as listed on the cover ?

I use a generic H32 oil from the local oil and grease merchant in a Colchester Student.

the bit im finding confusing is the change wheels .it has an imperial norton box but does changing the change wheels alter the tpi on the box ?

Of course it does. You can prove it to yourself. Hold a piece of broomstick in the chuck and use a marker pen in the toolpost to draw the thread onto the wood. Alter the changewheels upstream of the gearbox and see what effect it has.

Please advise which of the manuals you have and the page number that is relevant to your machine. Do the gears you have on the machine right now match what is there?

ok got it on page 12 i was too busy looking for it and missed the norton box reference . i was panicking as theres no change wheels present except those fitted and didnt know it they were standard .Currently only need the threads on the box ..
