I have recently picked up my first milling machine. It is an Elliott TV2 milling machine which I think is from the 1960's.

Information on the machine is very hard to come by but it looks like the head is similar to the Elliott Omnimill 01 & 02 Milling Machines. The base looks similar to the Elliott MILMOR Turret Milling Machines.

The lathes.co.uk lists a manual but I have been informed that it is mostly marketing information with very little information on the machine itself.

I would be very grateful if anybody can give me more information on the machine or provide any of the three manuals (TV2 or Omnimill 01 &02 or MILMOR) so I can piece things together.

See below for a few photos of the machine.

We had to remove the slotter's motor and rotate the vertical head 90 degrees to get it into the garage.

Sorry but I can't help with manuals but looks a useful machine! Out of interest how did you get it in and out of your pick up?

That is reported to weigh approx 1.2 tonnes! Quite a lot for a pick up?

The seller had a forklift truck and we just about managed to load the machine on the back with the relatively short forks. I did not have a concrete plan to get the machine off at home. Luckily my neighbour across the road spotted me pulling in and he offered to offload the machine with a tractor he had access to on the farm he worked. Saved me hours upon hours stripping the machine down to get it off.

The seller estimated the weight to be 500kg before I went to pick it up. Clearly, that was way off. I am still not sure what the exact weight is but it is fair to say it was definitely on the limit for the Ford Ranger and not a load I would like to carry again.

Rick Moore kindly scanned his copy of the manual and sent it to me.

Unfortunately, it does not have a detailed breakdown of the machine, there must have been an additional 'parts' manual too.

I am still happy that Rick was kind enough to scan his manual and send it on.

I made a quick raw video of the milling machine. Everything seems to work.

That is pretty much all you ever get with any industrial machine. Elliotts would have such a document to build the machine, but it wouldn't leave the works.

I am not sure that is correct as a general statement.

Look at any Colchester lathe manual: it has a complete parts breakdown with every nut, bot and washer itemised.

Would you consider a Bridgeport mill an 'industrial machine'?

I think all that can be said is that some manufacturers provided less information to their customers than others.

I am sure there was a parts manual too. Interestingly, I also have an Elliot Omnispeed lathe and that manual provides way more detail than the TV2.

It looks like Elliott did not take the same approach to all of their machines.

I used to have a Mlmor,a lot heavier machine, around 1 and 3/4 tons with 50 inch table ,it would have your pickups front wheels in the air. I did aquire a hand book, not very informative ,no mention of the spindle lubrication,or bearing adjustment etc. My current mill is a Elliott 00 omni mill which came with sales leaflet and handbook, which had more info than the milmor but not brilliant ok for lubricating info and machine dimensions and detail parts breakdown, check the head tram fairly often ,the heads do move under heavy cutting.though these Elliott machines do have lots of travel on xyz axis and good clearance under the spindle,I note that yours has a riser block for more spindle clearance, similar to the Bridgeport.I would not pay a lot of cash for a handbook not really worth having,
