Hi all I have some left over parts from several ML4 projects and wondered if I could make a small mill out of it see what you think it’s just roughly put together

I didn'trecognise it at first, just the name MYFORD. It shows promise for small work, just hope the purists don't get to see the pictures.

Oh I know but it has had a good life and was no longer useable as a lathe so I think it will with more work turn out ok for my needs

Ah, the Y movement does need a lot of thought. The knee would be smoother if the leadscrew could be fitted underneath on the centreline,or maybe behind the spindle running between the bed ways.

At the moment I have just the ability to rotate the slide but I intend to get something better on the table.

Maybe it'd be better to stick the table onto a very solid and heavy base, and use the leadscrew to move the (whole bed & ) head up and down for Z?

Top many flimsy/badly positioned items, e.g., leadscrew.

Your cheapest bet would probably be to join a club that had a workshop including a mill.

Yes I have done this but it’s always a pain so as I had a collection of odds and ends I thought let’s have a go remember it’s just a mock up and would need stiffening up but I think with a proper X an Y setup it will work three phase motor and speed controller as good as a cheap bench mill

I'm sure they sell a X-Y movable table. Not expensive . Something like this on ebay. X Y table If funds do not allow the purchase of a mill then go for it.

Worth a try.

I agree with Steviegtr, although that one at Wrexham is quite big, my attention was drawn to the others showing on the ebay page.

The throat depth would be easy to increase if necessary by having a spacer between the head and the bed.
