Just received some mini locking levers from the far east.

Installed one on the tailstock and one on the cross slide stop.

Really pleased with them, I would guess most sherline users get fed up reaching for the tee key and I'm no exception.

5mm thread so you need to re thread with 5mm tap.

Got them off ali express at jadkinsta official store, cheap as chips, £2.38 for the two.

Thanks for the tip. They look similar to those supplied by Eccentric Engineering with their Acute sharpening kit.

BTW, is your lathe sitting on Blu Tack?

Hi eva,

Yes they are a useful addition to the lathe.

Forgot to mention they are spring loaded around a hexagonal top so are adjustable for position.

No it may look like blue tack but it's just a cardboard cereal box base. Just felt a little compression was a good idea when mounting the lathe on the baseboard

Thanks for mentioning the adjustment feature. I prefer the hexagonal top kind as it is then easy enough to substitute a threaded (or tapped) component to suit the particular application; most of these handles seem to come in metric which is not always what's wanted.

As it is the socket part of the handle that most people have trouble making why not buy the handles and then make the new male piece to match you lathes threads, that way not altering the lathe.

Spot on, Bernard.

That is what I did on my imperial mill.

I removed the threaded part and replaced it with a rod I threaded metric on one end and imperial for the business end. Not a five minute job – but not that long to do it.

There are loads of choice on epay or ama zon for adjustable clamping/locking levers.

I bought mine from Arceuro long ago, before they stopped stocking them.

Possibly not quite as cheap, but can get them next day with Prime?

I bought some of the adjustable handles you mentioned and have fitted one as the topslide lock on my Myford:

Obviously, they don't come in BA sizes and I opted to modify a 6mm one to 2BA. This was quite fiddly and another time I think I would make the threaded "spindle" from scratch.

The handle is aesthetically out of tune with the rest of the machine but seems to work well and, of course, this is a prime location for an adjustable handle.I have shown a dismantled handle in the photo.

Hi ega,

Yes they do work well and are much better than using a tee key.

I opted to change the thread on the sherline from 10-32 to 5mm. Not a problem as the pitches are almost identical at 32 and 31.75 and the 5mm tap removes just a small amount of metal from the 3/16" 10-32 thread.

I've just bought these on ali express to fit the tool posts on the sherline. With postage tax and a £5 discount I get 4 levers for £4.01p, yes £4.01p
