I have a ems-i DRO pickup that came with my first milling machine, one of the dro pickups was unfortunately damaged in transit.

      The DRO is an ems-i

I know there was a thread on ems DRO's a few years ago so I searched and only found a bit of a Facebook page that has had nothing posted for years.

Could I buy a new scale and pickup from another supplier/ manufacturer and integrate it into the existing dro unit?

Does any one have any info on where I could get a like for like replacement?

      Thanks, Tommypxl_20220219_110349104.jpg

To this layman it looks like a standardish 'mass market' glass scale.

..a picture of the plug (and maybe the display unit) might suggest a clue / jog someone's memory..

The D type pin outs may no be the same even if the head is compatable , check the specs before plugging in.

Thanks, good idea, here's pictures of the screen, connectors and the pickup part that broke inside the housing…

Have a search of the forum using the google search part way down the home page for EMSi and you should find the name of their main parent company who may be able to help with a replacement it's been mentioned in a couple of threads.

The EMS-i manual for your console should have the pin out / socket in connection details for the scale.

Looking briefly at one of the manuals I hoovered up when considering buying an EMS-i system the scales appear to be standard TTL level quadrature output types. Unfortunately the D type connector pin assignments aren't completely standard between makes so you will need to verify that any scale of a different make has either the same pin-outs as the original or, if its different, that you can get an adapter cable.

M-DRO list the connector pin assignments for the scales they sell and have a range of adapter cables so it should be possible to sort out a suitable replacement. As far as I'm aware the scales M-DRO supply have the most common connector pin layout.

Thanks all, much appreciated hopefully this will lead to the dro being fully operational again.
