      Hi all

I have just aquired a Fritz Werner Universal mill. The mill is marked 2.210 on the main body and 210F on the vertical head. It has a Siemens Schuckert 2 speed (710/1430 rpm) three phase 415 v motor and some complex switch gear. The wiring diagram is 2.210/84. Both tapers are Int 30 and the machine is imperial.

I would be interested in any information relating to the machine or older Fritz Werner mills in general. I would be especially keen to find the circuit diagram for this machine.

Hi, I realise this is an old post but I run exactly the same mill and am looking for a vertical head with quill movement. The head I have fitted is a fixed quill. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I do have the circuit diagram that is secured to the switchgear door.

                Hi Andy/Michael

I think the Fritz Werner company you link to are munitions manufacturers. The machine tool part of the business is now an Indian company. Enquiries to the Indian company Bharat Fritz Werner ( **LINK** have drawn a blank for information regarding my old mill. Likewise Rockwell (London) who originally supplied the machine have no records of the machine either.

(Internet searches for Fritz Werner generally pull up more information about the German conductor/composer Fritz Werner rather than the machine tool manufacturer.)

I remain interested in any information regarding older Fritz Werner.

Unfortunately I drew that same blanks as far as the manufacturer is concerned, and it does appear that we may well be the only people in the UK running these machines. I have heard of people that have a head with quill feed and am desperate to try and locate one. I'm trying to avoid mating a Bridgeport head to the unit.

                    .

                    Bob,

Have you tried writing to the munitions firm ?

They state [on the History page that I linked] that they previously made general machine tools.

Many companies of that type retain an archive or have a small museum.

                      Hi Andy

I have a manual for Fritz Werner Type 2.211E & 2.211D, Milling Machine, Instructions Manual (1951) this is a different machine to the 2.210. Unless you brought your machine from a chap in North Wales then I know that there are at least 3 similar machines in the Principality. Have a look at this link **LINK** There is a very nice picture of a partially restored machine about half way down the thread.

I suspect there are even more in the UK as the chap I brought mine from in Sussex has another one and a few years ago there was one on ebay as part of a workshop clearance (together with a Smart and Brown Model A Mk 2 lathe. Both machines repainted in a pale cream livery.

Is the vertical head on your machine jammed full of thick grease?

                        Hi Bob

I'm glad there are a few others out there, maybe my search for the illusive movable quill is not in vain afterall. The vertical head was bone dry with no sign of ever being greased when I bought the mill. I removed the old mangled nipples and replaced with normal oil nipples and have used oil ever since. I find that what runs through the bearings runs along the shafts, collects within the gear housings and creates somewhat of an oil bath. I use the mill daily under reasonable loads and have done for nearly 2yrs and have never had any issues. I am wondering if the vertical head from the smaller 5.xxx series would be a straight swap? If not maybe another dovetail mounted head? If all else fails might have to opt for the bridgeport head.

                        Andy

Hii, I think i have the same machine (Fritz Werner 2210 mill). I’m looking for a manual. Does anyone have a copy?
