Hello all

I bought some thread gauges at boot sale
can someone explain why some have

numbers & letters on ie 13g

& some just have numbers are the ones with numbers

for thread pitch

Measure and work out the pitch to see if that is what they indicate?

A bit more detail would help people to help you, but 13g could possibly be "13 gauge" which would be the thread on the end of a particular diameter of wheel spoke. My 1938 tandem used 13g spokes.

assuming you have the common arrangement of two sets of blades sandwiched between two plates – then these plates usually have whit or metric or both stamped on them – on those under the whit heading they are marked in tpi turns per inch and under the metric the thread in mm – should be fairly obvious ‘g’ is used on german or european origin for tpi – there are funnies available eg BA threads but 99.9% are combi Whit + metric

13G usually means 13 threads per inch.

It is the metric way of describing TPI without referring to the verboten inch. As MG says, it stands for the German word for thread pitch. Older imperial thread gauges just have the number, indicating TPI.
