I'm considering make the boiler flanging plates for my 5" gauge BR Standard 2. Is there a rule of thumb of how smaller than finished size should the forming plates. Does anybody know of a supplier of finished forming plates. Reeves do not sell them any more.

From memory, for the few I've made, I just subtracted the material thickness all round. The material tends to thicken up slightly as it flanges over, counteracted by the planishing action of hammering, so you finish up with the original dimension.

          Hope that helps.
