      Hi Guys,

I have looked at old posts but I cannot readily find the exact question as this question is not about lubricating the inner workings of the chuck.

My question is the lubrication if any on adapter threads holding a Sherline chuck to the rotary table and the internal threads on the chuck itself.

Reason they tend to tighten under centrifugal force making removal sometimes difficult.. Is putting lubrication on therefore stupid or sensible and will it make removal easier?

Anti-seize grease works wonderfully. And no it doesn't attract any more swarf than oil.

Tighten under centrifugal force.         Surely not

A brownie point for spotting that Roy. Though centrifugal force can creep in to things clamped by a chuck's jaws.

What I meant is the chuck's thread is orientated not to undo obviously as the chuck spins…else flying chucks everywhere. So the chuck must tighten as it spins on its shaft. What the name for that force is maybe someone can put me right?

I put a little grease on threads like that. Partly for lubrication, but also because it prevents corrosion. I have a theory that Myford Chucks stick because the two thread surfaces glue together due to each growing a slight fur of corrosion.

Hopper's suggestion of anti-seize grease is good because some old greases and oils gum up over time. Avoid 3 in 1 oil as a long term lubricant!

                      Copper anti seize grease OK?

John what have plants got to do with the question? Or are you in a mischevious mood?

                            Copper Grease is fine.

Angel Tears Oil? There's exotic! We could be having our legs pulled. Mind you, try anything once…
