Hello.

I have been very lucky in obtaining a ‘Betty’ that I am sure will, with some TLC, be brought back to her former self.

The first step (I assume) is to undertake a boiler test. However although I have purchased a set of plans, I cannot find any reference to design or working pressures.

Can anybody help me with this? Is there a publication I need to obtain where this is all stated? Or have I just missed it upon the drawing?

I’ve had a look at my “words and music” booklet for Betty and I can’t see any references to working pressures or boiler testing. However, LBSC does refer back to his series for Mona which has far more detail about building a 3 1/2″ gauge boiler, including pressure testing. In this he refers to a working pressure of 75-80psi, with a hydraulic test to 150psi.

I have a Betty up and running and is a fantastic performer (2011 curly bowl winner) and she is tested at 160 psi and runs at 80psi. Hope that helps. Andy
