Hi, I have an old Myford ML7 that I'm currently in due process of cleaning, and I have no idea what I'm doing and came here to get some answers that the manual either doesn't have or I can't find elsewhere.

One thing I'm confused about is the shims on the spindle bearings and carriage assembly. I'm not sure how I'm meant to use them or what I should do if I lose them and what their function is?

I have taken off the bearings on the spindle when I first cleaned it and stupidly didn't look to see if I could put them back on correctly with the right spacing with slip gauges?

Is there a chart or something that tells me how tight I need to tighten most of the bolts and or grub screws?

how tight do I tighten to gib strip on the various places they're used?

There are many other questions I'd like to ask but I need to remember all of them for a later post.

For anyone interested the lathe in questions' serial number is close to K2400, its not my lathe I'm borrowing from a neighbour so I can't to a full restoration.
